In keeping with Pope Francis’ call to observe the World Day of the Poor and inspired by the theme “No One in Want,” the Small Christian Community (SCC) Coordinators of our parish organised a special get-together for the needy families. The event was conceived as a gesture of solidarity, fellowship, and compassion, bringing together parishioners and economically challenged families to celebrate an evening of joy and community bonding.
The main aim was to :
- To promote the spirit of Christian charity by reaching out to families in need.
- To foster inclusion and community building within the parish.
- To provide a joyful experience through games, spot prizes, fellowship, and shared meals.
- To ensure every invited family felt valued through thoughtful return gifts.
A total of 31 needy families (55 individuals) participated, along with 21 SCC Coordinators and 5 religious, bringing the total attendance to 81.
The evening began with heartfelt opening prayers led by the Priest-in-Charge and the religious Sister, invoking God’s blessings and setting a reverent tone for the celebration.

The Parish Coordinator delivered the welcome address, reflecting on the deep meaning of “No One in Want.”She emphasised that living as one family in Christ requires caring, sharing, and loving without expecting anything in return, through small, thoughtful acts that bring joy to others. She reaffirmed the parish’s commitment to ensuring that “no one in our community feels alone or abandoned.”
The snacks sponsored by the Zones were served by the Coordinators, providing an opportunity for warm, personal interaction between SCC members and families. This time of relaxed fellowship helped create a welcoming atmosphere.
There was games and entertainment organised for participants of the needy families across all age groups and the families were grouped to encourage teamwork, inclusivity, and fun. The prizes were sponsored by SCC Coordinators, which added excitement and enthusiasm.
Spot prizes were awarded throughout the evening to invited guests who answered quick questions or participated actively.

Thereafter dinner was arranged and after a prayer, a wholesome dinner was then served to the families by the SCC Coordinators symbolising the love and humility of Jesus reaching out to those in need, reinforcing the spirit of service at the heart of the event.

Each family received a return gift from the SCC Coordinators as a token of love and solidarity. This gesture brought smiles to many faces and added a festive spirit to the evening.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all involved in making the event successful.
- The World Day of the Poor celebration—“No One in Want”—was a meaningful initiative that translated faith into compassionate action. Through prayer, fellowship, fun, and sharing, the parish truly embodied the Gospel message of caring for those in need.
- The programme not only supported the invited families but also strengthened bonds within the parish, highlighting how much can be achieved when we work together with compassion and purpose.
